The history of Novosibirsk is connected with the railway, and many city sights remind of it: the Novosibirsk Main railway station, which resembles a steam locomotive; the ancient dark blue steam locomotive; a memorial to locomotive driver N.A.Lunin, which is standing near to the Siberia hotel; Novosibirsk metro-bridge which is the longest in the world (2 145 meters). For the fans of the railway there is a special route: traveling on a section car from Kokoshino to Pikhtovka, along an ancient single-track railway.

And those who are interested in the aircraft history, should visit the Communal Bridge over the Ob river — in 1965, pilot Valentine Privalov flew his plane MiG-17 under this bridge. This feat has never been repeated by any other pilot.

The largest municipal zoo in Russia enjoys a special popularity. In Novosibirsk zoo live about 10 000 animals belonging to 428 species. Here one can see animals that are not present in any other zoo of the world: argali, putorana snow sheep. It was in Novosibirsk zoo, that river otter, marbled polecat, and Kamchatka snow ram sired in captivity for the first time. Descendants of

the Persian leopards who have sired in Novosibirsk live in zoos worldwide.

Fans of ancient history should certainly visit the Bystrovka Village (the right bank of the Atamanikha river), where the material of decades-long archeological excavations is stored: it is both ceramics and bronze instruments of labour, ornaments, a variety of stone and bone products. All these things remained from Irmen culture which had existed between 11th and 7th centuries B.C.

There are rich possibilities for hunting in the area. Black grouse, hazel grouse, partridge, wild boar, roe deer, fox and other animals can become your trophies. There are 22 hunting wildlife sanctuaries, also is special aviaries in which pheasants are bred, and hunting is organized. Local companies offer taxidermic services to those who wish to keep their trophies.

The Novosibirsk Region is rich in fish: pike perch, Wild Carp, sturgeon, grayling and other valuable species are found in the local water reservoirs. In some ponds carps are bred — the largest ones reach 10 kg!

There one can pick up many interesting stones of bright colours and unusual patterns. Fans of butterflies will enjoy organized tours to the Butak Hills where live amazing butterflies: swallowtail, apollo Coenonympha hero are found, as well as rare species of dragonflies.

If birds are of much interest to you, come to make an ornithological round to the Chany Lake. Migration routs of many species of birds pass through this lake, and a variety of birds nest on the lake coast permanently.

One of the most «Novosibirsk» tours is the round to five lakes. According to a legend, these lakes were formed through falling of meteorite pieces, and water in the lakes is considered «sacred» as it really possesses unusual properties: it has a salutary effect and it does not spoil for years. It is believed that through plunging into each of these five lakes one can get rid of all illnesses. There is an opinion that precisely this legend served as a basis for a rejuvenation technique in the fairy tale «Konyok-Gorbunok».

Those who are interested in health improvement should certainly visit the «Karachinsky» sanatorium where various kinds of therapy are offered, with use of the well-known Karachinsky mineral water.
