Russiatourism took part in the representative II Abkhazian Business Forum, which was held in Sukhumi (Abkhazia) on October 15-16, 2010.
The Forum was chaired by the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, Sergey Naryshkin, and the President of the Republic of Abkhazia, Sergey Bagapsh. The meeting was attended by approximately 500 participants — representatives of public authorities of all levels, politicians, entrepreneurs, experts, journalists, representatives of educational institutions, humanitarian and religious organizations. It was noted that this annual meeting has become an important event in the economic life of the republic.
Such a representative pool of participants was predicated by the topic of the Forum — Abkhazia 2010: Towards sustainable economic growth and the expansion of interregional cooperation with Russia. Topics highlighted in participants' speeches covered a wide range of issues of mutual cooperation. They included: the current state and outlook for development of the economy of Abkhazia, Russian-Abkhaz relations at the contemporary stage, key areas of integration of the economies of the two countries, social and economic cooperation and trade and economic relations, the further expansion of interregional cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia, and the intensification of Russian-Abkhaz business partnership.
Valery Korovkin, Head of the Directorate for International Cooperation of Russiatourism, and T. Lakerbai, Chairman of the State Committee on Resorts and Tourism of the Republic of Abkhazia, conducted a roundtable entitled Prospects for development of the recreational tourism industry of Abkhazia.
